PXG adds Fat Brandon to Tour Series putter collection

Published

on

PXG launched the tour-influenced Brandon and Brandon II putters at the end of last year to great success. Now PXG is adding to that Tour Series with a trendy, wide-body blade called Fat Brandon. This putter starts life as a solid block of 303 stainless steel and is precision-milled into a beautiful design.

The original Tour Series Brandon has a similar look to a Newport or Anser, with softer corners and more rounded bumpers. The Fat Brandon takes the same design idea but stretches it out from front to back for a great look, a longer sight line, and a higher MOI.

“These putters are absolutely beautiful and a formidable ally on any green in the hands of the right golfer,” said PXG Founder & CEO Bob Parsons. “With the Fat Brandon, we’re giving players who love the look of a blade a bit more confidence and forgiveness without sacrificing feel.”

Speaking of MOI, PXG milled out the center of the sole and replaced the material with a lightweight 6061 aluminum plate. This process removed about 30 grams of weight from the center of the putter and moved it to the perimeter for some added stability when you make contact on the toe or heel of the putter. The longer sight line runs along the flange of the putter, while the deeper shoulders help frame the ball for better alignment.

A shallower fly-cut milling is used on the face in order to create a crisper sound and add responsiveness to the putter. Players will have better feel of where they made contact on the face and be able to adjust accordingly throughout the round. PXG used their precision sole weights on the putter so you and your fitter can work on getting the headweight correct, depending on your putter length and the feel you like through the stroke.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
