Wilson adds raw finish to Staff Model ZM wedge offerings
Today, Wilson Golf has announced the release of a raw finish option for its popular Staff Model ZM wedge, providing players with a tour-inspired look and feel that evolves over time.
As GolfWRXers well know from browsing our tour photo galleries, an uncoated and intentionally rust-prone raw finish has become a favorite among professionals for its reduced glare, enhanced feel, and uniquely weathered appearance.
Of note, while some raw finish wedges feature a finished face, the offering from Wilson is fully raw, as indicated by the photo below, so the rust-face fans will be pleased.

“The Raw finish can enhance feel off the face when hitting approach shots. So, for golfers who want a more responsive feel at their fingertips, the Raw wedge is a great option,” said Harry Nodwell, Manager, Product Line at Wilson Golf. “We remove the plating on the face allowing for oxidation to occur which results in rusting of the club head. Also, when introducing water to the club head, you will notice it starting to rust quicker.”

Key features of the Staff Model ZM Raw wedge
Raw finish
- Arrives unplated and rusts naturally over time, creating a personalized patina
- Helps reduce sun glare and enhances face feel for better control
ZM grooves
- Deeper groove pattern designed for maximum spin and control in all conditions
Garnet blasted face
- Increases friction and interaction between ball and clubface, boosting spin
Milled microgrooves:
- Added between each groove for precision control and improved feel around the greens

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping
Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

I am so happy. These Wilson wedges are awesome, so responsive, and crisp.
Just hated how dirty they got so moved on.
I will 100% buy and play these wedges.

Are all of them thru-bore designs? I’m guessing that’s the reason for the custom shaft
