Titleist adds 44F pitching wedge to Vokey WedgeWorks lineup

Published

on

It seems like 2025 is the year for Titleist Vokey WedgeWorks as we have seen a lot of wedge options released this year. I love that Vokey is offering so many wedge options for golfers to really dial in the bottom of their bag and make sure gapping is precise. This new 44F wedge is a pitching wedge replacement iron for those golfers that are playing stronger lofted irons like the T150 and T200.

Tour representative Aaron Dill had this to say about the new Vokey WedgeWorks 44F wedge:

“The Vokey 46 has been such a valuable club for so many, Tour players and amateurs alike. It offers the profile the Vokey wedge player loves, the bounce and grind that creates the right launch and spin, and consistency in carry numbers. With the lofts getting stronger in iron sets, we needed a lower-lofted head to avoid the sacrifices that came from strengthening a 46.”

Vokey currently offers a 46.10F pitching wedge for players who play more traditional irons like the T100 but it doesn’t work for every player when you bend it 2-3 degrees stronger. Bending a wedge to reduce the loft will also remove bounce and add some offset into the wedge that could cause the performance to not match the golfer. This new 44F will have 10 degrees of bounce like the 46 and 48-degree wedges that are in the SM10 lineup.

Like other Vokey SM10 and WedgeWorks wedges, the 44F has the famous Spin Milled face that combines precision cut grooves and micro milling to produce consistent spin from every lie. Localized heat treatment helps the grooves last longer without impacting the sound and feel of the wedge. Vokey also uses progressive CG on the 44F wedge that is a little lower in the head to be similar to an iron for better gapping.

    The first Vokey 9-iron!

(Lol. I own a Vokey 46F and could not wait for it. And I love it of course, along with 3 other Vokeys in my bag. And every word of this story makes sense. Thank you for it. It’s just that it is a sign of the times in the age of strong lofts.)

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
