Distance + forgiveness: Wilson’s new Dynapwr irons

Published

on

What you need to know: Wilson engineers started the creation of the Dynapwr and Dynapwr Max irons with some lofty goals for 2025. They were able to create some new technologies that make both irons the fastest and most stable that Wilson has ever developed. Both irons feature a lower center of gravity and a new iron body that help reach the performance goals. Dynapwr is a power-packed distance iron that provides a slightly more compact shape with reduced offset while Dynapwr Max features a wider sole and larger profile for added confidence.

Wilson Dynapwr and Dynapwr Max key technologies

Energy Transfer Chassis: A frame support that creates maximum energy transfer. Located at the back of the iron the Energy Transfer Chassis will also help optimize sound and feel at impact.

Hollow Body Construction: While hollow body irons aren’t new, Wilson took their design further to ensure that they improved face stability for more consistent shots. The hollow body also allows better weight distribution for straighter and longer shots.

Open Heal Construction: Shots struck near the heel can sometimes suffer due to the amount of mass there. This added metal can cause the face to stiffen and shots to come up short of their target. Wilson moved material around to ensure the thin face could flex near the heel to improve ball flight.

Topology Optimization: Getting weight where it is needed is the name of the game when designing irons. And it isn’t easy moving it around in a package the size of an iron head. Wilson used their Topology Optimization to move those precious grams of material to strategic spots in order to not only increase performance but also improve sound and feel.

What Wilson says

“We’ve taken the design process from the successful DYNAPWR family since it re-launched two years ago and added even more innovation to create two brand new irons for the game-improvement and game-improvement plus categories,” said Jon Pergande, Director, Global R&D and Product.

“The game-enhancing technologies incorporated throughout add up to deliver greater ball speed, more forgiveness and control to make the game more enjoyable.”

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
