Secret Weapon: PXG launches new mini driver
You can’t argue that mini drivers are one of the hottest and most talked about pieces of golf equipment right now. So PXG is adding some fuel to the fire with their Secret Weapon! We have seen some prototypes out on the professional tours previously, but it wasn’t included in the Black Ops line. Now PXG is ready to dish out the details on its mini driver.

The Secret Weapon’s 300cc head is made from a similar combination of titanium and high-strength composite like the Black Ops woods. PXG uses a thinner, stronger titanium for the face in order to create maximum ball speed on center, or off center, strikes. The composite from Black Ops drivers and fairways was used here because of the weight savings but also for the strength of the material. This allows PXG engineers to optimize the weight distribution for high performance and added forgiveness.

Many golfers loved seeing PXG’s Precision Weighting on the prototypes, and thankfully they kept that for the retail version. You have four weights on the sole of the club that can be used to influence trajectory, starting line, fade, or draw bias, as well as the weight of the head. Moving a heavier weight forward, back, heel, or toe should provide ample shot shaping for fitters to dial in the Secret Weapon. PXG’s adjustable hosel is included to allow loft changes of 1.5 degrees up or down, while also having a flatter setting to promote more of a fade ball flight.

PXG designed the Secret Weapon as a mini driver that is still versatile enough to be hit off the turf when needed. Yes the face is deeper than a traditional fairway wood but the leading looks to stay low in order to get under the ball.
Also of note: Jake Knapp just recently won the Grant Thornton Invitational with a Secret Weapon in the bag.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping
Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.
