Cobra unveils new DS-Adapt fairway woods and hybrids

Published

on

Cobra has today unveiled its full lineup of new fairway metals featuring technologies such as FutureFit33, Adaptive Weighting with updated PWR-Bridge technology, H.O.T. FACE, and carbon fiber crown.

The new DS-Adapt fairway metals are also available in three models (LS, X, and Max) to fit the full spectrum of golfers.

DS-Adapt LS Titanium Fairway ($429)

The new LS is designed to provide the lowest spin and fastest speed in the DS-Adapt lineup.

A titanium body is paired with a lightweight carbon fiber crown for significant weight savings to allow for 60 grams of tungsten (34 grams of internal tungsten and two 13-gram external weights) positioned low and forward in design to yield lower spin and the fastest ball speed of the three models.

A larger and thinner titanium face insert is optimized with variable thickness H.O.T. Face Technology in a bid to provide improved launch and faster ball speeds on off-center strikes. The LS is built with the deepest face of the three new DS-Adapt fairways and features FutureFit33 Technology, providing 33 loft and lie combinations in design for maximized ball flight tuning for the perfect fit.

Each fairway features SmartPad technology to keep the clubface square at address regardless of loft or lie settings. The LS is available in 3W (14.5 degrees), 3HF (16 degrees), and 5W (17.5 degrees) models and comes standard with True Temper Denali Black 60 shaft (X, S) and Lamkin Crossline grip.

DS-Adapt X Fairway ($329)

Per Cobra, the DS-Adapt X provides the best combination of fast speed and forgiveness of the three new fairway models.

The X model utilizes a mid to forward-positioned PWR-Bridge to reduce spin while also allowing for enhanced playability and high launch.

The shape of the X model is slightly shallower than the LS in design to promote higher launch and slightly more spin and is available in 3W (15.0 degrees), 3HF (16.5 degrees), 5W (18 degrees), and 7W (21 degrees), with the choice of True Temper Denali Red 50 (A-flex) or True Temper Denali Blue 60 shafts (R and S-flex).

DS-Adapt Max Fairway ($329)

The Max is designed to provide the most forgiveness with draw bias in the DS-Adapt fairway line and features two discrete moveable weights.

Players can choose to position the heavier weight in the back for added stability or in the heel for added slice correction.

The Max fairway is designed with the shallowest face of the three models in a bid to promote higher launch and increased forgiveness, and is available in 3W (15.5 degrees), 5W (18.5 degrees), 7W (21.5 degrees), and 9W (24.5 degrees) with True Temper Denali Red 50 shaft (S, R, A).

DS-Adapt Hybrids ($299 each

Rounding out Cobra’s lineup is their new DS-Adapt hybrids, which feature Adaptive Weighting for low and forward CG placement, H.O.T. FACE Technology for added speed and launch, a slightly larger footprint than previous gen DarkSpeed for increased forgiveness and consistency, and new FutureFit33 Technology for industry-leading fitting options.

The DS-Adapt Hybrids are available in 2H (17 degrees), 3H (19 degrees), 4H (21 degrees), 5H (24 degrees), and 6H (28 degrees) with KBS PG Hybrid graphite shafts in 85 (S), 75 (R), and 65 (A) flexes. A DS-Adapt Women’s Hybrid is also available in 4H (21 degrees), 5H (24 degrees), 6H (28 degrees), and 7H (31 degrees) with KBS PG Hybrid 55 (L) flex graphite shafts.

The DS-Adapt Max is also available in a women’s model in 3W (18.5o), 5W (21.5 degrees), and 7W (24.5 degrees) with UST Helium Nanocore (43 grams) shaft in Ladies flex and an undersize Lamkin Crossline grip (45 grams).

All Cobra DS-Adapt products will be available for fitting and pre-sale on December 12th, 2024, and will be available at retail and online on January 10th, 2025.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
