What GolfWRXers are saying about their planned equipment changes for the off-season

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing the equipment changes that they will be making during the off-season. WRXer ‘NYCGolfNut’ kicks off the discussion with his plans, saying:

“The new Ping G425 3W will definitely get a really hard look. Current club (XR16) is doing ok, but is now 4+ years old and getting very beat up

-Will likely evaluate the G425 driver as well because it looks awesome and my current driver is ok but nothing spectacular

– Everything else seems to be set for now (F9 5W, Miura irons and TW MG2 wedges), though in fairness, I’ve already added the P770 3 iron as a replacement for my DI / hybrid spot and loving it

– Have a bunch of putters and keep rotating through them for fun (all are the NP2 style), but my main squeeze is a Circle T NP2 mid-slant that will never, ever leave the main bag.”

And our members have been sharing the adjustments they plan on making to their bags in the near future.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • jeff1727: “Going to try to sneak over to Illinois from Iowa and get fitted at Bettinardi for a new putter. Hoping to find the “one” to stop the revolving door that it is my putter spot in the bag. Otherwise, I am pretty content. Might look at getting a new shaft for my 3 or 5 wood. They are starting to balloon on me since my swing change. “
  • DivinDave: “I don’t wanna make any change, but I need to. I love my Cleveland RTX 2.0 588 wedges, but the grooves are so worn on them, I’m not getting nearly the spin out of them that I used to.”
  • SC-TX 88: “Need to settle the spot between 4 iron and 3 wood once and for all. Been rotating around 5 wood, 2/3 iron, and hybrid.”
  • Cwing: “Possible driver please, three wood and hybrids. Hoping for demo days. G410/425 both in the demo list.”

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
