Adidas launches limited-edition ZX 8000 Golf shoe
Adidas Golf has unveiled the first-ever ZX model built for golf – the limited-edition ZX 8000 Golf.
The Adidas Originals’ ZX series, first released in 1984, was born from the idea that runners need a variety of footwear options depending on the type of run, surface or training they were looking to accomplish. Built from that philosophy, Adidas Golf has created the ZX 8000 Golf blending style with technology.
The new release features the brand’s patented Torsion System – designed for added stability – a responsive BOOST midsole, and vibrant colorways (clear aqua/shock yellow with pops of purple).
The shoes contain water-resistant materials in the upper to help offer protection from the elements, and a spikeless outsole which is built upon the original grip pattern. This outsole features golf-specific secondary lugs and a more aggressive tread pattern in design to provide added grip and stability along with comfort.
In addition, the ZX 8000 Golf shoe features a lace jewel with the words “ZX GOLF” at the bottom of the eyestay, a leather toecap, as well as an Adidas Golf logo on the heel and sockliner.
Speaking on the new footwear, Masun Denison, global footwear director, Adidas Golf said
“As the original sports brand, we are in a unique position to draw on our extensive archives for inspiration. The ZX was always meant to challenge the way people thought about running performance, and we wanted to do the same with golf footwear by pushing the limits with technology and fashion. Offering the ZX 8000 Golf is just another example of how we combine sports heritage, performance and lifestyle to ultimately push golf fashion in a more progressive way.”
The limited-edition ZX 8000 Golf ($130) will be available via Adidas.com, the Adidas app and at select retailers outside of the U.S. beginning September 4 at 8 a.m. PT.
Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.
“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

That’s not a golf shoe. It provides nothing one would ask for in a shoe specific for golf. How does this differ from a running shoe or training flats?
I want three things, in this order, from a golf shoe: 1. Traction. 2. Stability. 3. Comfort.
I don’t want a shoe I can wear to the store after a round. I don’t want a shoe that sacrifices 1 and 2 in favor of 3. I want a shoe that will not slip and will provide me with lateral stability. If it doesn’t make my feet hurt, all the better.
Again, this isn’t a golf shoe. It’s a slipper with laces.
