Cobra’s new King Black wedges, One-Length driving iron and Forged Tec irons

Published

on

In the last year, Cobra’s One-Length irons have represented 60 percent of its iron sales, according to the company. That’s significantly higher than the 20 percent of sales that company representatives were predicting.

As such, Cobra unveiled a number of new One-Length offerings, along with other new, traditional-length golf clubs. See all of Cobra’s new products it showed on Day 2 of the 2018 PGA Show, and check out all of our photos from the show here.

King Black and King Black One-Length wedges

Cobra’s new King Black and King Black One-Length wedges (the length of a 7-iron), have Dimonized Black Metal (DBM) finishes — the same finishes that Rickie Fowler has on his King Pro irons — and are made from 8620 carbon steel.

They are available in three different grinds (Classic, WideLow and Versatile), and come in lofts of 50, 52, 54, 56, 58 and 60 degrees.

The new black wedges will sell for $149 apiece starting on March 2. They come with True Temper Dynamic Gold S200 shafts with a Powder Coat finish, and they have Lamkin ACE Crossline grips equipped with Cobra Connect.

Forged Tec and Forged Tec One-Length irons

Cobra was being tight-lipped about the technology of the Forged Tec and Forged Tec One-Length irons. From what we can tell, they have a finish that looks similar to the DMB wedge finish, and they have True Temper’s AMT shafts in them. It also appears they have carbon fiber badges in the cavities, as well.

King Utility One-Length

Cobra would also not reveal any information about its King Utility One-Length offering, but we know it has an adjustable hosel, and will in all likelihood come in a 7-iron length.

These gorgeous clubs are not meant to be played; only quivered in your WITB arsenal of weapons and admired in your basement games room where you can discuss their beauty with your playing buddies while quaffing beer and scoffing pizza.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
