Nike granted a patent for clothes that “coach”
Nike obtained a patent that could potentially rattle some cages in the golf world.
The patent document describes “articles of apparel providing enhanced body position feedback.” The clothing will have tighter material in areas key to a repetitive movement, like a golf swing. The snugger fit increases muscle stimulation, the document says, giving golfers a better feel that will improve form.
Nike’s design would incorporate a thin elastic material embedded into the part of the garment that covers the lower back to heighten sensation — a part of the body that is essential to the swinging motion and is difficult to feel while performing.
But just because Nike obtained the patent doesn’t necessarily mean it will come to fruition. It’s common for a company to be granted numerous patents for products that never see the light of day.
If Nike does decide to release the product, it’s traction in the golf industry will be interesting to follow. Joe Goode, managing director of communications at the USGA, told Bloomberg:
“Under U.S. Golf Association rules, compression and posture garments are allowed during competition while clothes designed to store and release energy aren’t.”

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping
Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Danny, you’re 100% wrong. A compression shirt with tighter areas can help you hit the ball better. The problem Nike is going to run into, is that this has already been done. INTELLISKIN! It’s a compression shirt with rock tape/kinesio tape technology built in that aids in maintaining your posture and fixing your scapular position. Nike is years behind the game and not the first to think of this.

You gotta give it to Nike for their marketing. There is no way tighter shirts will help someone hit a golf ball better, but they will swear it does and there will be guys swearing the same. Just as air cells can help you dunk, square heads on drivers can fix a hook or slice and RZN will go farther because its lighter. Slightshot irons and covert are also up for gimmick awards.
