The fairway wood that wasn’t supposed to come to market

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing Eleven Golf’s FW1. Per the company’s website, the club is described as “Available in 7° and 9° lofts, the FW1 has been engineered for golfers seeking a flatter, more penetrating flight with true driver-like launch characteristics.

WRXer ‘JoeyA’ kicks off the discussion, asking:

“Looking for any thoughts or reviews on the Eleven golf 1 wood. Looks like a very unique club designed to be a lower spin driver. Thoughts on if this could work for someone who struggles with spinny drives?”

The designer of the club, Nick Hemming, just happens to be a member in our forum community, and provided some insights into the design process, saying:

“Long story short, I originally built this club for myself. I typically spin a standard 3-wood at around 4,000 RPM, so I experimented with significantly less loft to solve that issue.

The results were exactly what I needed: I now spin the 7° model at roughly 2,500 RPM and the 9° at 2,700 RPM.

Is this club for you?

  • Yes: If you struggle with high spin rates, this club will drop your numbers significantly.
  • No: If you already spin your 3-wood at sub-3,000 RPM, this club likely isn’t the right fit for your game.

Honestly, this wasn’t supposed to come to market—but after James Robinson started hitting bombs with it and told me I had to release it, I figured, ‘Why not?'”

And our members have been weighing in with their thoughts in our forum.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • MickeyTankBank: “I don’t need it but I kinda do.”
  • adamwon84: “Not gonna lie, its def on my radar for a fun summer club.”
  • RosadoC: “Ordered my 7 degree 12/01/25.  Patiently waiting for it to come in.  Hopefully any day now!”

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
