What are the softest wedges currently on the market?

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing soft wedges. WRXer ‘Cstobaugh’ is looking to upgrade his current wedges, and kicks off the thread saying:

“Will be upgrading my wedges after the new year. Currently have RTX6 Tour Rack. Love them, but would like to try something a little softer this time around. Somebody who has tried them all, which is the softest (forged) wedge on the market? Thanks!”

And our members have been sharing their top picks in our forum.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • FredWomble: “Echoing the sentiment wrt Mizuno T1. I’ve picked up 52 and 56 and they are unbelievably soft feeling. I’m still dialing in but they look great at address and garner comments simply on appearance in the bag. Good looking sticks.”
  • hammergolf: “The softest wedges I’ve ever hit were the PXG 0311 Forged.”
  • pjc: “Just my opinion, but the Ping S159 wedges feel pretty darn soft to me, 8620 carbon steel cast.”

Cleveland’s RTZ wedges are noticeably softer feeling than the RTX6 wedges as they are made from a totally different metal than any wedges on the market. (Softer than 8620 carbon steel supposedly)
I have a 54 and a 58 in the black finish and they are buttery.

Cleveland makes the softest wedges out there though… Anything softer will be forged and will wear out much faster…they already recommend changing wedges every 75 rounds lmao how expensive can you want golf to be??

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
