Rory McIlroy teases major equipment change for 2026

Published

on

Rory McIlroy has teased a potential big change to his bag after enjoying a memorable 2025, which included completing the career grand slam at the Masters.

For 2026, however, the Irishman has suggested that an iron change could be on the way, with Rory telling  Boston Common Golf’s YouTube channel:

“I’m actually trying a new set of irons, which I’m very excited about at the minute.”

Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait and find out as to what new irons the TaylorMade staffer is currently trying, as he didn’t disclose more details.

However, Mcilroy is in action today as his Boston Common Golf side take on Los Angeles Golf Club in their TGL opener so it will be worth keeping an eye on the clubs in Rory’s bag.

McIlroy has commonly used the brand’s Rors Proto Irons (5-9) as well as a TaylorMade P760 4-iron. but recently switched into TaylorMade’s P-7CB from 4 to 6 iron in Melbourne.

*Update*

McIlroy played a full set of TaylorMade’s playing a full set of P7CB irons (4 through 9-iron) during Boston Common Golf’s TGL opener last week, signalling a departure from his Rors Proto irons.

Rory was using a mixed set of TM irons in Australia, the cavity model in longer irons.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
