Turning your mini driver into your main driver
In our forums, our members have been discussing having a mini driver at the very top of the bag. WRXer ‘nic19’ kicks off the thread asking if any fellow members have made this move, saying: “I hate 460 cc heads and I’m interested to hear fellow travellers who feel the same and specd up a mini to replace a standard driver.”

- Ger21: “Bought it, and stuck it in the bag. I give up a little distance on perfect drives, but bad drives with the mini are much longer than bad drives with a driver, so my average distance went up, and accuracy improved a lot.”
- Kimpano: “I’m currently playing a Callaway Elyte Mini 13.5 as my only driver. Before that, I played a TaylorMade R7 Mini 13.5. I sold my standard driver and found that the mini keeps me in the fairway. But I’ll definitely buy a full-size driver in 2026 and use both, since I have room in the bag.”
- Snowbirdtom: “Testing a TM R7 Quad 11.5* as driver and also playing it off the deck as my 3 wood. Swapped the stock shaft for a TPT 16 MKP/MT/SW cut to 43.75 inches – factory stock length for the mini. It’s working fine.”

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.
“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.
