Spotted: New Project X Denali Frost shafts
The Project X Denali shaft line was built around adding some feel to their golf shafts while maintaining the stability and performance demanded by golfers around the world. We saw the first shafts out on tour in the second half of 2023, and they were released to the rest of us in early 2024. This week, Project X released an updated version on the PGA Tour with the new Denali Frost shaft line.

Like the previous release, we have seen two profiles available to the players, with Blue being the mid-launch option and Black offering lower flight and spin. Project X has added Focused Rotational Stability Technology to ensure stability in the shaft that can help keep shots that miss the center to flight straighter. “FROST” is built into the specific sections of the shaft using high-modulus carbon fiber to create this added stability. Adding stability is always great but for Project X they had to keep the same smooth feel that Denali players demand.
“Denali Frost builds on the foundation of the Denali franchise by enhancing stability where it matters most. Golfers will see tighter dispersion and more consistent performance swing after swing, while still getting the smooth feel that defines Denali.”
Don Brown, Vice President of Innovation and Marketing

Both the Blue Frost and Black Frost have a similar EI profile, featuring a stiff handle section that transitions to a softer shaft as it approaches the tip. Black Frost will be a little stiffer overall, and Project X focuses more of the high-modulus material in the tip section to promote low launch and slow spin performance. Blue Frost has the high-modulus carbon fiber in the mid-section to promote the traditional mid-launch and mid-spin profile that golfers want.

Right now, Blue Frost and Black Frost are launching only on the professional tours, but Project X is expecting shafts to be at retail in early 2026. Both shafts are currently available only in Tour X-Stiff (TX) flex, with 60, 70, and 80 gram weight options.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping
Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.
