Spotted: Mizuno Pro S-3 Prototype irons
Adam Schenk was testing some new Mizuno irons at the Sanderson Farms Championship this week. He just had a 9 and pitching wedge in the bag so we can assume these probably won’t be in the bag this weekend.
We aren’t sure of what these new irons are but have “S-3” etched into the hosel. The hosel also lets us know that these irons are Grain Flow HD forged from 1025E carbon steel. On the back of the iron is a small split cavity with the Mizuno Pro badging on it so this probably isn’t going to be part of the JPX925 line that was just released. The face height looks to be on the shallow side and the blade length looks to be a little longer.

A small split cavity is on the back and we can assume that the mass in that cavity is going to be used to get the center of gravity in the correct spot. A pre-worn leading edge looks to be ground onto the sole along with some trailing edge relief for improved turf interaction. No word from Mizuno on any details or if they will be coming to us at retail.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping
Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.
