Interesting photos from the Waste Management Open Monday qualifier
If you haven’t already had the chance to dive into the 10 galleries of pictures we have from the Monday qualifier for the Waste Management Phoenix Open being held at McCormick Ranch Golf Club, Pine Course, check them out here in the GolfWRX Tour & Pre-release Equipment forum.
The reason this is an important event to cover is because the WMPO Monday qualifier is one of the toughest on the PGA Tour based on the strength and size of the file, which includes multiple tour winners, and for the simple fact it only offers three spots compared to the traditional four.
But if you are looking to get the Cliff’s Notes version of what we saw at the event here are the top things we’ve spotted.
Lots of pushcarts
Not everyone has the luxury of using a caddie, and there were lots of pushcarts out there.

Sorry folks, mats only today
It doesn’t matter who you are, you have to follow the rules, even if you are Billy Mayfair and have over 23 million dollars in career earnings.

Cross-handed golfer

Raw Callaway MB and X-Forged
You don’t have to be on tour to get the cool stuff, and as far as irons go, raw Callaways are high up there.

Akshay Bhatia
The smooth swinging lefty—who is still a teenager by the way—is doing everything he can to get starts, and that means playing Monday qualifiers.

Rife still kicking
Rife as a company is long gone, but if you have a putter you love, why change?

Lots of tour players
Everyone from young guns, to tour veterans, were out, including Ricky Barnes, a player who has over 300 PGA Tour events under his belt, and Aaron Baddeley, another player with over $20 million in career earnings.
Also full credit on the Callaway major bag flex from Ollie Schniederjans from the 2018 U.S. Open.

Local Golf clubs
Lots of cool clubs can be found in the bags of Monday qualifiers including direct to consumer brand New Level.

Don’t bet against this guy
Don’t lie, if a golfer rolled up to you on the first tee with these old Ping irons in the bag, you wouldn’t think much about it, unless they belong to a five-time PGA Tour winner.

Oldies
When you have something that works, stick with it, and for Monday Qualifiers there much be a lot of old goodies that are working well including a Nike Method putter.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping
Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

This is a really great article. Shows the realities of the PGA tour and pro golf. It unbelievable how deep pro golf has become when you have such notable names having to qualify.
