Odyssey Golf unveils Stroke Lab Black #7 Toe Up putter
Odyssey Golf has introduced the Black #7 Toe Up putter to its Stroke Lab lineup.
The new model features a black PVD finish and coating and features the brand’s multi-material Stroke Lab shaft designed for better tempo and consistency.
The multi-material shaft saves 40 grams of weight which has been redistributed to the head and grip end of the putter. This redistribution of weight aims to offer players a rebalanced putter which provides improved tempo and consistency on each stroke.
The new putter contains a Microhinge Star Insert which is designed to provide golfers with a firmer feel and enhanced acoustics at impact while still maintaining the roll benefits of the company’s White Hot Microhinge Insert.
The Stroke Lab Black #7 Toe Up flat-stick features a unique Backstryke hosel which aims to create significant toe-up characteristics to encourage minimal face rotation and arc in the putting stroke.
The #7 design is Odyssey’s number one head shape on Tour and noted for its sharp ‘fang’ shape designed to boost MOI.
The Stroke Lab #7 Black Toe Up putter is available at retail from Thursday, July 16 and costs $199.99.
Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.
“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

I don’t care about “toe up” technology or anything like that. I was one of the minority who loved the Backstryke style putters. I’ll definitely give this one a go as something about the wonky setup just suits my eye!
