Cobra brings the AMP Cell driver to junior golf

Published

on

Rickie Fowler’s impact on junior golf has been overwhelming to say the least. The massive amount of flat brims spotted on children at PGA Tour events are proof of that.

Maybe that’s why Cobra has announced a junior version of its AMP Cell Driver, which (shocker) comes in vibrant orange. But there is more to junior driver than a flashy paint job.

It’s available in lengths of 39 inches, 41 inches and 43 inches with a Fujikura Fuel shaft. By registering the purchased AMP Cell Junior Driver, golfers can get one free upgrade to one of the longer, firmer models. This will be a welcome change for parents who have needed to purchase a new driver each time their child’s swing evolved.

The junior version of this driver features the same technology as the adult versions, including MyFly, SmartPad and Cell weighting. And besides the higher lofts possible with the youth version, the head of the driver is basically the same.

“The AMP CELL Junior Driver brings COBRA into a new category in golf,” commented Bob Philion, president of Cobra-Puma Golf. “While Rickie bridges the generation gap, there’s no question a lot of youth golfers look up to him as a role model. We felt it was time to deliver the same, high performance technology and ‘Rickie Fowler’ look to the Junior golfers out there. It’s important to recognize the need for their game development, which ultimately leads to growing the game.”

The driver will carry a street price of around $299, and is available in right-handed models with MyFly technology that allows the drivers to  be adjusted from 11.5 degrees to 14.5 degrees, including 12.5 and 13.5 Draw settings. It comes with a Fujikura Fuel shaft (universal youth flex) with a 460cc head and COBRA Lamkin REL 3GEN 360 grip.

The AMP CELL Junior Driver is available at Golfsmtih and golf retailers.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
