Lefty drops the driver, squeaks inside the cut line
This week, Callaway announced the release of its new 3Deep three wood, a design that was influenced heavily by Phil Mickelson.
The 3Deep is has a taller face than Callaway’s X Hot Pro fairway wood, which allows Mickelson to hit the club almost as far as his driver. And since it has a smaller head and more loft than a driver, it’s also an easier club for Mickelson to shape off the tee.
Mickelson has been playing the club for several weeks, but put even more faith in it when he teed off in Round 2 of the Shell Houston Open without a driver, opting for the 3Deep and two other fairway woods to fill out his bag.
He struggled early in the Round 2, which put him in jeopardy of missing the cut. But three straight birdies on Nos. 11 through 13 propelled him to a round of 1-under, just enough to make it to the weekend.
Mickelson famously used two different drivers when he won the 2006 Masters. An equipment change of this magnitude just two weeks away from the Masters raises a question — is it possible that Mickelson is planning to use two different 3 woods this year at Augusta?

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping
Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

I think the bottom line is technology is maxed out, it all comes down to the Indian not the arrow. Oh and that little thing between your two ears. Brand marketing is what sucks us in and brain washes us. Golf is so mental, I love it!

By the way, this article is full of grammar errors.
“He struggled early in the Round 2” Is that like “the Google”?

Callaway is playing commercials of Phil bragging about how great the X Hot is. At the same time he’s removed him from his bag because it sucks.

wait, didn’t Phil fall in love with his Razr Fit extreme and do commercials about it? Seems like everyone’s marketing is full of crap these days. Next thing we know he will be like Luke List, Jason Day and other guys promoting irons he doesn’t play.
