TaylorMade launches “10 Years of Tradition” campaign
Can you believe that it’s been 10 years since TaylorMade started creating special logos and merchandise for each of the four majors?
To celebrate the 10-year anniversary, TaylorMade is launching a season-long “10 Years of Tradition” campaign, starting with the season’s first major, the Masters.
Instead of making special edition hats, TaylorMade has created special hat pins that will be worn by its tour staff, as well as the usual bags, headcover and logos commemorating each major.
This year’s logo features a golden bear, an obvious homage to Jack Nicklaus, and features six magnolias around its neck to symbolize Nicklaus’ six wins at Agusuta. Besides the homages to Nicklaus, TaylorMade also pays tribute to:
- The image of the bear is a tribute to the player who’s won the most green jackets, six.
- The six magnolias adorning the wreath around the bear’s neck symbolize each of his six victories at Augusta, in 1963, 1965, 1966, 1972, 1975 and 1986.
- The course is built on the former site of a nursery, thus each hole is named for a tree or shrub. The wreath’s holly leaves refer to the 1988 champion, who reached No. 18 (named Holly) on Sunday tied for the lead, and hit his approach to six feet from a fairway bunker and holed the birdie putt to win by a stroke.
- The wreath’s maple leaves are a nod to the 2003 champion, the first and only winner to hail from Canada.
- The bear’s pose, including the open mouth and curve of the tongue, is evocative of the image of the “Rampant Lion” on the Royal Flag of Scotland, and is a reference to the 1988 champion’s Scottish heritage.
- The letters MMXIII (below the wreath) are the Roman numerals for 2013.

While these items will not be available for purchase, TaylorMade is giving fans an opportunity to get involeved in celebrating its 10 years. On the Monday before each major, fans will be able to vote for their favorite logo of each tournament of the past 10 years.
At the end of the PGA Championship, the winning logo from each of the majors will compete against each other in order to be called the most popular logo. You can get a head start on picking your favorite logo from The Masters by checking out the gallery below.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping
Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.
