‘Virtually no break-in period’ – GolfWRXer reviews 2026 FootJoy Premiere golf shoes

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been reacting to a review of FootJoy’s new Premiere golf shoes. WRXer ‘christphoto’ recently purchased a pair of the 2026 editions, and gave this review in our forum:

“Last week got a new pair of the 2026 Footjoy Premiere shoes. I already have a few pair of the previous Premieres so this is a comparison of the two models.  First, and most noticeable is there is virtually no break-in period for the new shoes.

The prior designs had a long period for the shoes to soften up.  This may be to the sole re-design.  There are about half as many “nubs” on the base on the new shoes. The sole on prior models had nubs on most of the entire bottom. These new nubs are a pyramid shape so they should dig into the ground better compared to the flattish nubs on the prior shoes.

There seems to be more padding around the collar and tongue too. Plus for some odd reason the sides of the tongue are connected to the shoe with elastic. Don’t know why Footjoy did this as I’ve never had issues with the tongue moving around. This combined with the extra padding makes sliding into the shoe a bit more difficult, but once in its very comfortable.

They’re the same price as in past years ($250) so that’s a positive.  All in all a great shoe to walk in.  Classy style as well.”

And our members have been sharing their thoughts and own experiences in response.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • SEP1006: “All (9 pair) of my Golf shoes are the Premiere Series. I don’t walk, never have and never will. But like you said no break in. period at all and a great quality shoe. Always get compliments on them as well.”
  • LUMA: “I have the Field as well as the Packard. I like the look of the Field better, but love the fit due to the V lacing of the Packard. I also tried a pair of Traditions to be a cheaper “walking round workhorse”, and after one round, returned. The Premier’s for me were better for walking by far. Don’t waste time on Traditions, just go Premieres.”
  • LaurieK: “I’ve worn nothing but the Adidas Tour360s for a number of years now due to a foot issue that only they (or surgery) can solve, but I recently took a flyer on a set of the Premiere Fields because I just love the look of them in all white.  Super high quality shoe.”

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
