Details on Wyndham Clark’s new long driver
As the PGA Tour heads down to the bayou for the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, competitors are welcomed with good food and good music, with the added bonus of team golf. With the difference in format comes the opportunity for players to think outside the box with their setups to gain any possible advantage compared to a normal week on the Tour.
Wyndham Clark is one of those, with the former U.S. Open champion looking to play a longer driver at TPC Louisiana for the two rounds of four-ball, where he’s able to fall back on playing partner Taylor Moore if one goes astray.
Clark, who’s playing a TaylorMade Qi4D 10.5 set lower equipped with a Project X Titan Black TX 70g shaft, went to 45.75 inches in length for the Zurich. With that, he needed to remove weight from the head to make it feel similar to his original gamer. The TaylorMade team decided to go from 9 to 8 grams of weight in the rear weight port to return the club from D5 to D4 swing weight, which Clark is accustomed to.
With that, after some early-week testing, Clark told us there’s a chance it might stay in all four rounds, as it’s going straight.
Averaging shorter of the tee this year than last, at just short of 309 yards, Clark’s spent much of the early season testing different setups before deciding on the Qi4D. Clark started the year out gaming a Ping G430 LST with the HZRDUS Hulk shaft. After that, he switched into the G440 before going back to the G430. Clark also gamed a Titleist TSR2 at Pebble Beach before settling in the Qi4D. Since then, he’s jumped from 120th in Total Driving to 27th.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping
Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.
