Tommy Fleetwood spotted with new TaylorMade Spider putter at Harbour Town

Published

on

It’s the one-year anniversary of Tommy Fleetwood’s switch to a TaylorMade Spider putter. Since that addition to his bag, the Englishman captured his first PGA Tour win and became the 2025 FedExCup champion.

The putter that earned him both was traded out earlier this month to some surprise. The custom-drawn Sharpie lines created by TaylorMade Tour Rep James Holley to help Fleetwood’s alignment were replaced by TaylorMade’s pilot’s eye alignment aid, consisting of a single dot with a line on either side, parallel to the putter face.

“Look, I actually haven’t putted very well this year. It’s been one of the sort of more disappointing ways that I’ve started the year,” Fleetwood said pre-tournament at the Valero Texas Open. “I haven’t played how I wanted to, and sometimes it’s nothing more into it than you just need something different to look at, like a slightly different visual or something, just to change up your mindset a little bit. So that’s why I changed the sightlines.”

Now at the RBC Heritage, he’s changed the cosmetic again, this time using the newly launched Spider line, featuring what looks like a PVD torched finish. It’s similar to that of the custom, sand-blasted finish on Rory McIlroy’s Spider putter. Fleetwood was testing an L-Neck version of the same putter, but it didn’t make the bag for the first round at Harbour Town.

According to Holley, they made a slight adjustment to the sight line with the new one wider. But the overall putter specs stayed the same.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
