Henrik Stenson latest pro to put exclusive invitation-only golf ball into play

Published

on

Henrik Stenson has partnered with the invitation-only golf society called The Underground and will put its golf ball in play for the first time at this week’s Senior PGA Championship. The event marks Stenson’s debut on the senior circuit, as the five-time European Ryder Cup participant turned 50 earlier this month.

The partnership represents a significant milestone for The Underground, a private collective that has quickly and quietly generated interest among athletes, celebrities and avid golfers seeking to be part of: “an exclusive club that exists beneath the surface of the mainstream game.”

Stenson is now the brand’s second professional to put the ball into competition, with Sergio Garcia also playing the ball.

“Performance is everything when it comes to equipment. I can feel the difference in quality and consistency. I’ve put in the time testing it, I trust it, and I’m really looking forward to getting it out there in competition.” – Henrik Stenson

While membership includes a curated selection of apparel and accessories, the centerpiece remains the golf ball itself, which the company hails as “meticulously engineered, never sold at retail, and held to a level of quality control that exceeds even the standards of the game’s largest manufacturers.”

The new venture was co-founded by Hollywood star Mark Wahlberg, Garry Singer (former co-founder of Clear Golf Balls), and retail heavyweight Doug Meijer.

“We built The Underground for players who care about performance at the highest level, but also want to be part of something that sits outside the mainstream. To have a major champion like Henrik put the ball in play and trust it when it matters most says everything about what we’ve built.” – Garry Singer

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
