GolfWRXer raves over mini driver that produces ‘straight bombs’

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been reacting to a very positive review of Titleist’s GT280 mini driver. WRXer ‘CROCN’ recently put the club in the bag and kicks off the discussion saying:

“Anyone else having success with a mini driver? I really like this Titleist GT 280 set at C1. Straight bombs with a slight fade!”

And our members have been sharing their reaction and own experiences with the club in response.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • adamwon84: ” spent months testing a few different mini drivers and finally settled on the GT280 because of how much easier it was to hit off the deck compared to the others (PXG, Krank, TM Copper). I have mine on the stock setting with a UST Proforce V2 75 X at 43 inch length (reminds me of my 975D build from HS/College with the Proforce 65)…its been an absolute weapon off the tee, hits the ball soooooo straight and gives me the perfect distance. I need to tinker more with the adapter settings, but its hard to want to swap it when I hit it so solid in A1. Great Choice!”
  • Ben B: “Not the thread I needed to see. I knew better than clicking on this one…”
  • CROCN: “I rarely have to hit it off the deck, but I do use it to punch under low limbs or when the wind is howling in my face I drive it off the deck to keep it under the wind. Even on 640 yard par 5’s, My drives leave me between 275-310 out so I hit my 2 iron. I drive it longer than the above average player. My normal 3W goes between 300-330. I love the mini driver for the short par 4’s between 330-360. It’s more accurate than my LD head on a 46″ 2X HOF Raptor shaft.”

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
