PXG announces Stick’em Forged wedges

Published

on

Today, PXG introduced its new PXG Stick’em Forged wedges. Engineers opted for a fully forged wedge lineup designed to deliver enhanced feel, consistent spin, and improved stability for short-game performance, according to the company. The wedges feature a clean, tour-inspired profile paired with modern engineering elements aimed at helping players control trajectory and generate predictable results from a variety of lies.

PXG Stick’em Forged wedges: Key technology

Stick’em Forged Wedges are precision-crafted from three-times forged 8620 soft carbon steel, a process that refines the metal’s grain structure with each forging stage. According to PXG, the repeated forging compresses and aligns the material at a microscopic level, producing a softer yet more solid feel at impact along with a crisp sound.

The multi-stage forging process also improves durability, helping grooves maintain their sharpness over time while ensuring tight manufacturing tolerances and consistent performance throughout the lineup.

Modern performance features are integrated into the design, including:

  • High-toe weighting to increase MOI and align the center of gravity with open-face shots
  • Progressive CG placement to help promote consistent launch conditions
  • Optimized groove geometry with wider grooves and tighter spacing to enhance spin and debris channeling
  • Full-face grooves in higher lofts to expand the effective hitting area on open-face shots

PXG says the groove design increases friction at impact by expanding the groove cross-sectional area while tightening spacing so additional groove edges are more likely to contact the ball.

“The short game is where players either gain confidence or lose it,” said Mike Nicolette, Senior Director of Engineering at PXG. “With Stick’em Forged Wedges, the goal was to give golfers a wedge that performs predictably shot after shot.”

Two sole options

The lineup includes two sole configurations designed to fit different swing types and course conditions:

BP-Grind (13-degree bounce): A wider, fuller sole that increases effective bounce and helps the club glide through softer turf and sand. Best suited for steeper attack angles.

S-Grind (10-degree bounce): A tapered sole with heel and toe relief that allows players to open the face and play a wider variety of short-game shots.

Lofts and availability

Stick’em Forged Wedges are offered in 50, 52, 54, 56, 58, and 60-degree lofts.

54-60-degree models: Full-face grooves for expanded strike area on open-face shots

50, 52-degree models: Traditional groove configuration designed for full-swing control

The wedges are available now through PXG retail locations and online for $199 (Chrome), $219 (Xtreme Dark).

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
