GolfWRXers Discuss: Soft feeling irons that last
In our forums, our members have been discussing the softest feeling irons that last the best. WRXer ‘Threewoodteeba’ tees off the thread saying:
“Looking for opinions on soft feeling irons in the players distance category. I have hit the Srixon ZX5 in the past, by far the softest irons I’ve swung. They might be too soft though, often looking beat up after normal wear and bag chatter. What models deliver similar feel and performance but are more durable? I play the Apex 21 which are less susceptible to nicks and bag wear. Here’s a list that I’m looking at:
Titleist T250
Titleist T350
Wilson XB
Callaway X Forged 2025
Srixon ZXi”
And our members have been sharing their top picks and recomendations in response.
Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.
- dmbolp: “PXG 0211ST irons from 2021 with 100+ rounds in them, as well as 100s of hours indoor simulator, they still look brand new.”
- Boricua Golf: “As a Callaway guy, I woudl say APEX Forged 24 (gamers), I do like old school TaylorMade 300 Forged, MP series, MP33 or MP30s, X prototypes are great as well…”
- Lord Helmet: “Iron covers FTW. I’ll see myself out now.”

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping
Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.
