Arnold Palmer Invitational Lead Tape Report: Put a slab on that putter
After a thrilling finish at the Cognizant at the Palm Beaches, the PGA Tour continues to Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill. A mainstay at the Orlando track on the tour schedule since 1979, this event yields shots that require all attention on the task at hand. Let’s see a few of those clubs in this week’s Lead Tape Report.
Andrew Putnam

Andrew Putnam last played at Bay Hill in 2024, finishing tied for 11th. He returns again this week with a putter from 2019, the Odyssey Rossie. The tape has been on there so long that you can read the logo. That is the look of a gamer, along with that finish of the putter wearing off.
Robert MacIntyre

This Titleist driver has been in the bag for a bit with some character developed. Two large tour-style tapes on each side, bumping up the swing weight a couple of points, is a championship-caliber gamer look.
Danny Sahl – Corey Conners’ Caddie

This Ping Ally Blue putter has a little addition on the top of all places. This putter belongs to Danny who is Corey Conners’ caddie. Corey was in the Seminole Pro-Member, so Danny got it tee it up in the Bay Hill Pro-Am on Monday. Speaking with our photographer, Greg Moore, he said the lead tape on top of the putter made a big difference in how the putter felt and how the ball rolls off the face.
Jake Knapp

Spoiler: No tape here. But seeing this welded neck this close to the heel is something else. Jake Knapp with a custom build for this Scotty Cameron 5.2 mallet. It is cool to see the guys in the tour truck open up their book of tricks with design, performance, and creativity to have the players’ visions come to life.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping
Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.
