McLaren announces new venture with golf equipment brand – and GolfWRXers react

Published

on

McLaren has announced the launch of its new venture – McLaren Golf.

This launch will extend McLaren’s DNA – built on decades of experience in elite motorsport and supercar engineering – into a new category, led by a dedicated team of golf-industry experts and world-class engineering minds.

“McLaren Golf is a high-end, engineering-led venture which goes beyond the equipment. We’re building a brand grounded in McLaren’s high-performance DNA, and embedding it in a new sporting arena. We’ve hired some of the best minds in engineering and combined them with leading figures from the golf world to create an innovation-led company that pushes the limits of what golfers can expect from their equipment. We can’t wait to see our ambition come to life on the course this year.” – Neil Howie, CEO of McLaren Golf

PerMcLaren Golf, the new venture aims to “push the boundaries of equipment design and manufacturing to unlock new levels of precision for golfers driven by the same endless pursuit of performance.”

“At McLaren Racing,?we’re?driven by?performance and the pursuit of excellence in everything we do. Taking our benchmark?setting engineering standards from the grid to the golf course feels like a natural step, and one that opens the McLaren brand to a new audience.”  – Zak Brown, CEO of McLaren Racing

This new chapter of McLaren begins on April 29 with the full launch of McLaren Golf and its first products.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
