Brooks Koepka makes huge putter change…and it’s not a Scotty Cameron

Published

on

Brooks Koepka made his PGA Tour return last week at the Farmers Insurance Open, and did so with two Scotty Cameron putters in tow.

The 35-year-old has been a proponent of a Scotty Cameron flatstick on the greens over the last decade, primarily gaming a Newport 2 blade that has helped him achieve 5 major championship victories.

However, in what is a significant equipment shakeup, Golf Channel analyst Eamon Lynch was first to report this week that Koepka will use a TaylorMade Spider mallet at the WM Phoenix Open.

Smylie Kaufman then posted the following photo of Brooks on the range with his new TaylorMade Spider putter:

It will be a major departure for Brooks, and though many fans will be unaccustomed to seeing the 5-time major champ without a blade putter on the greens, it’s not the first time he has opted to play a mallet. In 2025, Koepka spent brief periods experimenting with both a Scotty Cameron T-5.5 and Fastback 1.5.

However, this will be the first time Brooks has opted for a mallet that isn’t a Scotty Cameron, and it comes off the back of a very disappointing putting performance at Torrey Pines.

Last week, the American finished last in the field for putting, losing almost 5½ shots on the greens with the flatstick during Saturday’s round alone.

Late 30’s multi major winner searches for very different putter to fix his woes. Where have we seen this before?

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
