Which GolfWRXer plays the oldest driver?

Published

on

In our forums, our members are trying to find out who is currently gaming the oldest driver in the community. WRXer ‘dokez’ kicks off the thread with their candidate dating from 2010, saying:

“Who is ‘gaming’ the oldest driver on Golfwrx? I’ll start with a TM R9 Supertri 11.5 degree from 2010.”

And our members have been getting involved in our forum.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • mat562: “Barring the lads pegging up a persimmon, I reckon I must be in the conversation with my 2005 Nike Ignite. I’ve tried more modern ones, and I still like it.”
  • James The Hogan Fan: “At the beginning of last season I made a thread about how my driver was so off I bought a clone of my 2003 HiBore from high school and played the beginning of the season with it to regroove my swing. I loved that club; I remember it blowing the doors off my R580.”
  • wpsturgeon: “Callaway Great Big Bertha II from 2002. Still hits fine, 220 meters or more depending on the winter weather. Has that different sound. Also shortened Ping G5’s (PW-5) rifle shafts and couple of hybrids. Good beater clubs.”
  • jplroper: “I’m playing the Callaway Steelhead from around 2000 I think, also matching 4+ and 5w. all with Memphis 10 steel shafts. I bought it as a temp fill in when the A driver was getting a re shaft, its been the go to driver ever since.”

I’m using a killer b kit from golfsmith components on and off for about 20 yrs now. Backup is Bombtec 4.0 which at times is goes in the bag. Third is a 9 degree Mizuno that I haven’t been able to figure out yet how to hit.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
