‘I’m ready to be converted’ – Give me your elevator pitch for this club…

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing 9-woods. WRXer ‘stratgolf’ is ready to be converted and wants to hear fellow members’ best elevator pitch to convince him into buying one, saying:

“Give me your elevator sales pitch on the 9 wood – I’m ready to be converted

“I’ve recently become a 4 iron remover and replaced with a 5 hybrid, but I am considering taking the experiment one step further and going down the 9 wood route in this spot. Keen to hear any positives / negatives of those who have taken the plunge, and whether you had any regrets?

“Are you matching your 9-wood shaft to your 7-wood? What 9-woods are in people’s bags at the moment?

“God I have a lot of head covers for a 26 year old……”

And our members have been sharing their best pitches in our forum.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • teedub21: “Buy a used one (if you can find one) and try it.  I think it’s one of the most versatile and fun to hit clubs in my bag.  If I was playing a 4 club challenge the 9 wood is coming along.”
  • smoky25: “Replaced my 5-iron with a 9-wood.  Much, much higher ball flight and descent angle which is what I (and Tommy Fleetwood) like about it. And as long as I don’t over swing it, dispersion is better.”
  • gnorr74: “I use a Paradym 9 -wood 24 degree, 210-220 off the tee high and straight when you just let it work and don’t over swing. I love it for dog legs or shorter holes where you’re trying to set up that second shot at the right distance.”

    Before I pitch,

Question #1: How windy is your course?

Question #2: What is your swing speed?

There are no 9-woods or 7-woods at the British Open. 5 woods or 3 hybrids at best.

The “so many headcovers” had me rolling. I feel that!! I bag a 4H and rotate through 3,5,7 irons depending on what my driver is doing and the course. My hybrid is my favorite club and I’m starting to love the 7W. 9W might be overkill for me, but they’re fun to hit!!

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
