My club fitting experience in Japan

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been reacting to an interesting thread where a member went to Japan to get fit for clubs. WRXer ‘DrizzyRNS’ has just got back from from the far east and has written up exactly how his experience went down, which you can read below:

“I just got back from Japan and ended up going with a set of Miuras from Euroz Golf. I used Golf-In-Japan to help setup the appointment, they booked me one with Double Eagle in Ebisu and Euroz Golf in Roppongi. Unfortunately despite noting that I was a lefty ahead of time, I arrived for my appointment at Double Eagle and was informed that they did not have any left-hand clubs to sample. They were very apologetic and offered to check with some of their other locations, but I was on bit of schedule crunch so I had to pass on their offer.

I had a really good experience at Euroz; they are an authorized Miura dealer as well as Itobori. They have an english speaking fitter on site, Yuga, and he was fantastic! Had a left-handed Miura ready to go for me to hit alongside a few other JDM options. He was very patient and even insisted I try a handful of different shafts to make sure I felt comfortable with the setup before committing. Would highly recommend their shop to anyone looking for Miuras. Being a lefty, I was limited to the CB-8101 and MB-8501. I ended up with a combo set 5-7 CB and 8-P MB!

Some things to note:

  • For my lefties, be prepared to be limited in your options if you’re going for JDMs.
  • If you end up going with Miuras know that there are no stock options to purchase, they are all custom. The turnaround time I was quoted was 1.5-2 months. Unfortunately as of October 2025, Japan Post has halted shipments to the US due to the tariff situation and shipment duty changes. Yuga at Euroz told me that they would be happy to hold my irons for me as a courtesy until I was able to come back to Japan or until the restrictions were lifted.
  • He also mentioned that he could ship them to another country if I had someone that could forward them to me from there. I have a friend in Canada who is willing to do that for me, but fingers-crossed that the restrictions are lifted by the time my irons are ready to ship.
  • It’s a little tricky to setup appointments with shops even via email, but Golf-In-Japan handled for me and made it really easy. Not sure if they get a kickback from the shops they partner with, but it seems they have relationships with most of the major stores in Tokyo. If you have a specific shop in mind, I think they’d be able to help set that up.

Happy to answer whatever questions I can for others looking to get fitted in Japan!”

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
