Srixon ZXi5 full set or combo with the ZXi7? – GolfWRXers discuss

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing Srixon’s ZXi5 and ZXi7 irons. WRXer ‘bm303’ kicks off the thread with a conundrum, saying:

“Long story short, got a fitting a few months ago, conclusively picked the ZXi5 with Axiom 105x after testing a bunch of combos but ended up buying Cobra 3DPs on an impulse buy. They have been great, but I ordered a ZXi5 7-iron in the exact specs I was fit into (1 up 1 weak) and they are blatantly better for me.

The fitter suggested I go into a 5/6/7 ZXi5 and 8/9/P/G in ZXi7. I am hitting the 7-iron so good that I wonder if I should just run zxi5 through the full set?

I am a pretty good ballstriker, used to be a good golfer (low single digit handicap) 12 years ago, and recently got back into the game. I won’t be able to play or practice all that much, so I am conflicted on what to combo. I could even do the 5/6/7/8 in ZXi5 and just the 9/p/g in the ZXi7. Thoughts?”

And our members have been sharing their suggestions in our forum.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • MakersMarsh3: “Literally cant go wrong either way. Both are low spin, the 5s even more so cause the lofts. Do you like the wider sole of the 5s? I would definitely do the 7s in atleast 8, 9, W.”
  • CPT_LHR_ATL: “ZXi5 all day. You will realistically gain nothing from the more demanding ZXi7 and will give up a lot, in terms of both distance and forgiveness.”
  • Lobber: “Similar decision point for me.  I decided to go all ZXi5 with Axiom 95.  Being built as I type.  I play to an 8 and my iron striking is ok but on off days I can use a bit of extra forgiveness. And at 68 a bit more distance also.  Good luck with your decision. Great irons that are underrated imo.”

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
