Move over, K-Sigs: Amazon announces Basics Core Soft golf ball
While the hype around the Amazon Basics Core Soft golf ball is yet to approach the fever pitch of Costco’s Kirkland Signature release of a few years ago, the fact that the world’s largest e-commerce site is getting into the golf equipment space is notable — even if it isn’t immediately bringing a urethane-cover design to market.
Amazon’s Basics Core Soft is firmly a value golf ball at just $14.49 per dozen (or $24.16 for a 24-pack). These balls cost just over a dollar apiece, undercutting most of the competition in the value segment, where a dozen golf balls typically retail for twice as much.
The Amazon ball is manufactured by SM Global (the same company behind Costco’s Kirkland Signature golf balls), so the Basics Core Soft brings a recognizable pedigree to its construction. The two-piece balls feature a low compression core, which is especially helpful for beginners and seniors who might not generate tour-level clubhead speed. They promise longer distances and a straighter flight with a soft feel at impact (not surprisingly).
The Basics Core Soft leverages advanced core and ionomer cover technology, which Amazon claims leads to optimized spin control. An alignment aid side-stamp, bearing the Core Soft logo, helps players line up putts on the green, making it easier for newcomers to develop confidence and accuracy.
The value golf ball market (outside of the major OEMs) has grown increasingly competitive in recent years, thanks to brands like Kirkland Signature and Sam’s Club’s Member’s Mark. Amazon’s Basics Core Soft enters this fray with a pricing strategy that’s tough to beat, making it an option for those looking to stretch their golf dollars further — or Amazon smile logo loyalists, them too.
Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.
“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Hopefully they come out with a 3-piece urethane ball in the near future and it undercuts balls like ProVs, Z-Stars etc.

Hopefully they are more durable than the current costco ball. That thing must be covered with cheese.

But aren’t Kirkland’s 3 piece balls? So these two balls other than being cheap still fall in different spaces…
