My view on Sub 70’s 669 CB irons – GolfWRXers discuss
In our forums, our members have been reacting to a review on Sub 70’s 669 CB irons. WRXer ‘DJ412’ has recently put the irons in play, and has been sharing his feedback on the clubs in our forum. Check out his review below:
“I’ve had a couple members ask me about the new version of Sub 70 CB irons, the 669s. I ordered them in the raw finish and they are just starting to rust. Beautiful milled backs and soles with a little V sole. Nice medium sized forged CB head. Good amount of offset with a little thicker top line than some other forged CBs. I love the look, I can tell there is some help for the days where I’m not swinging well.
Shots in the sweet spot have a fantastic feel and sound. I can hit a bad shot and only lose 5-10 yards and it still stays on or near my line. They are somewhat traditional lofts but I’m still hitting near my normal 7i of 145-150 yards. If I center one I’m getting up to 155. Very consistent yardage on well struck shots thru the set. I ordered them in my specs and were spot on, on arrival.
I’ve owned a number of Sub 70 clubs, fairways, hybrids, utilities, irons and wedges. And just like all the others they are excellent value for the money. $700 for 5-PW brand new, all custom and delivered in 2 weeks. Another job well done from Sub 70.”

Fellow WRXer ‘Rbsiedsc’ responded to the thread saying: “Good to hear. These are on my radar. Since they have the v sole I am even more intrigued. Curious to hear more about them.”
With ‘DJ412’ following up on his review by saying:
“Still loving these. Flirted with a set of Takomo 101s but didn’t care for them. Obviously the feel is much better being forged 1 piece of the Sub70 vs the hollow cast Takomos. Distance was still a tad better with the Sub70s as well. But that was probably the shafts. The patina is getting real nice on the raw heads.”

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping
Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.
