What’s the best mini driver? – GolfWRXers discuss
In our forums, our members have been discussing mini drivers. WRXer ‘ronnbee’ kicks off the thread with the direct question “what is the best mini driver?”, and our members have been sharing their favorites and reasoning behind their choice in our forum.
Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.
- GoldenEagle69: “Depends on usage, really. If it’s tee only I’d look at Callaway and Taylor Made. I prefer the Callaway for that purpose. TM cpuld yield more distance, but I’ve always had control issues with TM. If hitting off the deck, probably going to be Titleist. However, if you have no issue hitting driver off the deck, they will all be easy to hit off the deck for you.”
- Streuner: “For me, the mini is a 2nd tee option on tight holes where I have to avoid the right side of the field. And from the tee with a controlled driver like swing, Callaway came out best for me. It can be different for any other use.”
- Urb: “Tee only – Cally or build a thriver. Off the deck – Titleist or PXG.”
- RavishingRett: “That is such a subjective question. It’s like saying what’s the best car. You could say like oh it’s a Ferrari because it’s fast and expensive, or it’s a Honda because it’s cheap and reliable, but if you’re hauling a horse trailer everyday they both aren’t worth a hill of beans. The best one is whichever is best for you.”

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping
Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.
