Titleist unveils special limited-run of its classic Forged 680 MB irons
Sure to please blade-loving purists everywhere, Titleist has today announced a special limited run of its classic Forged 680 MB irons.
The 680 MB irons were originally released in 2003, but they still have a strong following from golfers who love the shaping and feel they offer. 2012 U.S. Open champ, Webb Simpson, is one of those players; he currently has 680 MB 5-9 irons (Dynamic Gold Tour Issue X100) in the bag (see Simpson’s WITB here).

The primary difference between 680 MB and the in-line 620 MB irons is in their profiles. 680 MB irons offer a more classic, old-school blade appearance at address, with slightly more offset, a shorter blade length, and a higher toe. They have a very thin topline and a traditional narrow sole design, which features a pre-worn leading edge, moderate camber, and strong bounce angle.

Compared to 620 MB, 680 MB irons have weaker lofts throughout the set, with a 36-degree 7-iron (620 MB 7-iron measures 34 degrees).

680 MB irons are forged from high-quality 1025 mild carbon steel in a bid to deliver exceptionally soft feel, and they are finished with a classic nickel chrome plating for a high-gloss look. Performance-wise, 680 MB irons offer the workability and flatter ball flight that is characteristic of classic Titleist muscle back irons.
Forged 680 MB details
- Very compact profile with a higher muscle position
- More offset and a shorter blade length compared to 620 MB
- High-performance sole with pre-worn leading edge, moderate camber and strong bounce angle
- Forged from a single billet of 1025 mild carbon steel
- Classic nickel chrome plating
- Available irons: 2-P (RH & custom only)
Lofts: 19 degrees (2-iron), 22, 25, 28, 32, 36 (7-iron), 40, 44, 48 (PW)
Golfers can order them on Titleist.com through custom order in set configurations of 2-P, 3-P, or 4-P (RH only).

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping
Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Still have a mint set of original 680s. One of my all time favorites when I am swinging well enough.
