Best hybrids 2025: Expert fitters on the hybrids for your game

Published

on

At GolfWRX, we believe the best hybrid is the one that helps you score better and save strokes where it counts. Whether you’re attacking par 5s in two or getting out of trouble with a controlled punch, hybrids should be versatile weapons in your bag.

In 2025, the hybrid landscape is deeper than ever. Manufacturers have continued to innovate, offering more options across the board—from players seeking long iron replacements to those looking for higher-lofted hybrids to fill specific gaps. Some brands are even producing hybrids that extend into traditional 8-iron territory, providing more consistency and forgiveness throughout the set.

As always, the ideal way to dial in your hybrids is through a professional fitting session with a launch monitor and proper gap testing. But we also know that not every golfer has access to those tools. That’s where we come in.

We’ve done the heavy lifting—testing, comparing, and analyzing the latest releases—so you can make more informed decisions. Our goal is to arm you with clear, actionable insights to help you choose the hybrids that best suit your swing, your speed, and your scoring goals.

We have again broken our 2025 best hybrid list into two categories. We reached out to our trusted fitters to discuss how they sort through the hybrid club options available to golfers. Forgiveness and versatility were the highest-ranked choices.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
