KBS launches new PGW (Players Graphite Wood) shaft
KBS has long been known as one of the leaders in iron and wedge shafts, with many different designs and profiles that match golfers’ swings. KBS brought out its first wood shaft, the TD, in 2019 with great success and is now launching its new PGW wood shafts. The “players” graphite shaft is now available in a wide range of weights and flexes to fit the golfer looking for added launch and spin control.

While KBS’s TD wood shaft was more of a mid/low-launch shaft, depending on weight and flex, this new model will be for players who need a little more launch to optimize their distance. A lot of golfers think that a higher-launching shaft is also high in spin, but KBS engineered the PGW to control spin to help golfers get the most out of their shots. The company engineered the PGW with state-of-the-art carbon fiber material for stability, durability, and consistency off the tee or the turf.
“The introduction of the PGW shaft represents our commitment to providing golfers with the best performance equipment,” said KBS director of R&D and master shaft-maker Kim Braly. “By enhancing launch conditions and adding stability to the wood category, this shaft is set to redefine playability for a wide range of golfers.”

The PGW will fit right in with the other “players” KBS shafts, like the PGH hybrid shaft and the PGI graphite iron shaft. Available in five weight classes and flexes from R2 to TXX, there should be a PGW that fits your swing.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping
Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.
