Club Junkie: Callaway’s 2025 Elyte fairway woods – ride the Tungsten Speed Wave!

Published

on

What you need to know: New technologies are packed into the entire line of Elyte fairway woods, so Callaway didn’t have to compromise on performance in any model. From the low-spin Triple Diamond to the Elyte Max Fast for high launch, each fairway is built to help golfers in need. This year we have the all-around Elyte, more forgiving Elyte X, low-spin Elyte Triple Diamond, and the lightweight Elyte Max Fast.

2025 Callaway Elyte fairway woods: What’s new, key technology

Step Sole: Callaway’s new Step Sole design creates a smaller contact patch with the turf to ensure smoother turf interaction and move the ball contact up the face a little. Moving the contact with the ball up the face creates a better strike and faster ball speeds. The Step Sole also minimizes skidding and was inspired by the original Apex UW sole.

Tungsten Speed Wave: This 35-gram weight is featured in the 3, 3HL, 5, and 7-woods to move mass forward and low, promoting faster ball speeds. A more basic version of this was used in the 2013 X Hot fairway woods, but this takes the technology to a new level. The 35g weight is really a tungsten bar that sits, elevated and away from the face flexing, on the sole.

Ai 10x Face: Callaway talked about micro-deflections with the Paradym Ai Smoke and Elyte gets even more of them. Using Ai they increased the amount of micro-deflection spots, making the not only faster on mishits but straighter too. With 10x the control points you can expect tighter dispersion and more optimized launch on shots that don’t hit the center of the face.

Opti-Fit Hosel: Keeping the adjustable hosel in the 3 & 3HL fairway woods allows fitters and players to dial in the perfect launch conditions for straighter and longer shots. Callaway gives you the ability to lower the head’s loft by 1 degree or raise it by 1 or 2 degrees to dial the club into your swing. You can also adjust the lie angle more upright for added draw if the players needs to reduce that fade.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
