Putters used by the top-10 golfers in strokes gained: putting in 2024
To some degree, for mere mortal strikers of the golf ball, the putter is the club where we overlap most (maybe even identify with) with professional golfers.
How many of us will ever rip a drive 320 yards in the air with a slight right-to-left flight that settles in the right center of the fairway, perfectly placed to attack a pin positioned on the left center of the green? Compare this with the negative handicap holders who have rolled in a 10-footer with four inches of break.
We’re familiar with these clubs and what they can do. And as more professionals gravitate toward more forgiving models, even more so.
Put another way, putters are clubs where we ought to be interested in what the pros play. That is, they have more application for our games than the driver of a 120 mph swinger does for an 80-swinger.
In that spirit then, with the Season of Scheffler newly behind us, here are the putter and grip combinations of the PGA Tour leaders in strokes gained: putting.

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.
“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.
