Cleveland introduces wedge fitting system/app

Published

on

Cleveland Golf is making the search for the right set of wedges easier with the introduction of two new tools.

The first is the Cleveland Golf Fitting System, which features interchangeable wedge heads comes in a variety of different lofts, bounces, lie angles and models that can be placed into an array of wedge shafts.

Buying a new set of Cleveland wedges online is now easier as well, thanks to Cleveland’s Wedge Fitting Application. As part of its redesigned site, Cleveland has created a system that walks a golfer through the steps to buy a new custom-fitted wedge.

The application begins by asking a golfer for the make of his or her current pitching wedge. The app calculates its loft and then recommends what loft of wedges might work best for them. From there, golfers choose their desired model, loft, bounces, lie angle, shaft and grip, with numerous upgrades available for an added charge. Once that process is completed, golfers can purchase the wedges directly from the application.

“It’s no secret that a player’s wedge game is critical to scoring and performance,” said Todd Harman, president of Cleveland Golf/Srixon – U.S.A. “We’ve raised the bar with wedge innovations over the years such as multiple bounce options, Zip Grooves, cool finishes and now Rotex technology. With the introduction of our new Fitting System and Fitting Application, we’ve made it easier than ever for any player to use the right set of wedges and get the correct loft gapping throughout their entire set. This is a game-changer for us and the equipment industry. The way that golf professionals and retailers are now able to comprehensively fit a golfer for a wedge set is truly a breakthrough.”

I tried it too and was not impressed. It does very little fitting and a lot of selling. Also, if you order more than one wedge there is n option to adjust the loft on just one wedge, you have to do the same for all wedges ordered. Stupid. Never shows the price until you fill in all the order info. The site is junk.

I tried score a few years ago and thought the gap wedge was ok but the 56 and 60 were not good performers. The grips were cheap and not installed correctly either. They are now in my basement!

Wow that’s about as pathetic fitting system as I’ve ever seen. My PW was 47 deg so it recommends gapping of 5/4/4 with a bog standard 52,62 and 60, that’s not even worth space on this page!

First, it took a few times to get the site to load, once I was able to actually find it. Second, why do I have to the option to change my lofts, stronger or weaker, when the purpose of the “fitting” is to properly fit my gaps. That just doesn’t make sense. I don’t get it. Why take a fitting and then have me tell them what I want. The whole reason I took the fitting was to find out what I need.

I did a fitting online from a new company, SCOR Golf. They were on The Hotlist last year and this year, too. They actually tell you what you need.

I haven’t tried them yet, but I’m thinking the Scor wedge fitting is better and will probably go that direction.

Has anyone else tried Scors or their fitting online? Thoughts?

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
