Vista: Toulon Golf releases 3rd Small Batch putter

Published

on

Following the Small Batch Dogwood in August and Montecito in September, Toulon Golf today launched its third limited offering: the Toulon Golf Small Batch Vista.

As with all the Small Batch offerings so far, a California locale lends its name to the design. Vista is a town near and dear to the Toulon family’s heart as it’s where they’ve made their home since the 1990s and where Toulon Golf was born.

A relative of the Toulon Santa Monica, the Small Batch Vista is a heel-toe weighted blade, which features a topline that is flatter in the center and slightly more beveled along the edges. According to Toulon, this visually thins the topline and gives the putter “a bit more crispness.”

Both the shoulders and bumpers have been redesigned relative to the Santa Monica. The shoulders feature a slightly more convex shape and the bumpers are more angled upward from cavity to heel/toe and are “in symmetry with the newly shaped tri-sole design.”

For the Vista, Toulon has elected to pair its Sage Green and Cream paint fill with a Milk Chocolate PVD finish.

The sole has a Brushed Satin finish and a nod to the original Toulon company’s birth year with the “EST 2015” stamping.

The Small Batch Vista is manufactured from 904L stainless steel, which contains a higher content of nickel and copper than steels traditionally used in putter design. It’s the same material used by Rolex in crafting its watches.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
