Spotted: Odyssey Triple Track Jailbird putter

Published

on

I don’t know if there is more talked about and coveted putter right now than the Odyssey Jailbird! Rickie Fowler trusted the Versa Jailbird 380 to get his first win in four years, and Wyndham Clark has the same putter in play when he won the 2023 U.S. Open. Odyssey saw so much demand that they released a limited run of the Versa Jailbird 380 putters for us amateur golfers to buy. This week, we see another Jailbird, but this time with Odyssey’s Triple Track alignment instead of the Versa paint scheme at the Sanderson Farms Championship.

This new Triple Track Jailbird was on the putting green and in a few different versions, including what looked like a longer counterbalanced version. A double-bend putter should be face balanced ,and it was next to a slant neck model that should offer some additional toe hang.

Triple Track alignment is a combination of three horizontal lines that are used to help line the putter toward the target. Callaway offers this same alignment setup on their golf balls to create a larger alignment system. A longer, more stretched-out topline houses the Triple Track lines and is accompanied by two white site lines that run east and west on the flange. These lines can help frame the ball, giving additional confidence that you have the ball in the center of the putter and aimed correctly.

These are tour putters, so while the sole says “Microhinge Star Insert,” the putter actually has a White Hot Microhinge insert installed. The White Hot Microhinge offers the same soft feel as the White Hot but promotes more topspin for immediate forward roll. You can also tell there is a little more texture to the White Hot portion of the face, which I have noticed on a lot of tour putters this year, but Odyssey has been very hush-hush about what it does.

The sole also contains twin weights near the face on the toe and heel to dial in the perfect headweight depending on the player preference or build length. The counterbalanced version of the Triple Track Jailbird has what I would assume is a heavier steel shaft and what looks like a Super Stroke Zenergy 1.0P 21-inch grip. The standard length model looks to have Odyssey’s Red Stroke Lab graphite shaft and a standard Odyssey grip installed.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
