Spotted: Keith Mitchell’s TaylorMade Spider X long neck prototype putter
When you love the look of a plumbers neck, or crank neck, hosel from address but you really need less toe hang, there is really only one option. Go up! TaylorMade did exactly that for Keith Mitchell with a prototype Spider X Hydro Blast. The Spider X Hydro Blast has been a very popular putter since it was released in 2021 with a focus on helping players aim better while still offering the stability Spider putters are known for.
Keith’s Spider X was modified a good amount by the folks at TaylorMade, and it starts with the long plumbers neck hosel. Long necks aren’t anything new in the putter world, but TaylorMade never offered a plumbers neck in the Spider X Hydro Blast series. So, the tour department probably cut off the existing neck and welded on the much taller one. I am not sure if this neck makes the putter truly face-balanced, but it will greatly reduce the toe hang compared to the slant neck version of the same putter head.
The top of the putter is Hydro Blast silver with a bright white True Path alignment line running through the middle. On the retail putters, there was a thin black site line that ran from face to back as well, but it looks like Keith has chosen to delete that for a cleaner look. The face looks to have the same Pure Roll insert that offers 45-degree grooves for immediate forward roll and a soft feel. The bottom of the putter shows off the multi-material construction with a steel body and carbon composite insert that gives the Spider X its stability and forgiveness.

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.
“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.
