XXIO launches new Prime line for 2023

Published

on

The new XXIO Prime is set to make its debut in North America on April 14.

XXIO’s advanced set of lightweight golf clubs is specially designed for golfers with moderate swing speeds who are still looking for power and performance.

“Crafted for golfers who have lost some speed over time but are still looking to add distance and maintain accuracy, this new XXIO Prime delivers,” stated Chuck Thiry, Vice President of XXIO. “The XXIO Prime utilizes lighter components in the driver, fairways, and hybrids to deliver more MOI, resulting in straighter, more powerful distance. Additionally, the Weight Plus Technology counterbalances and stabilizes the club, resulting in a more efficient path, consistent contact, and greater ball speed.”

As would be expected from the Prime line, XXIO’s 2023 Prime offerings feature a luxurious design with advanced aerodynamics in a bid to help reduce strain on the swing, and, theoretically, make it easier for golfers to maintain consistency and performance. MOI is substantially improved from the previous generation, and the draw-biased driver head features a larger profile. Additionally, driver CG is shifted 29 millimeters deeper in a bid to increase forgiveness and the driver features a 130-percent larger high COR area compared to the previous version and a 15-percent tighter impact matrix, according to the company.

Key innovations of the XXIO Prime line include Rebound Frame, Weight Plus Technology, ActivWing, a Super-TIX 51AF titanium face, and an SP-1200 shaft.

Rebound Frame, featured on the driver, fairway woods, hybrids, and irons, uses an alternating pattern of stiff and flexible zones. This produces more energy transfer, and thus more ball speed.

Weight Plus Technology: Extra weight at the butt end of the shaft for more stability and consistency.

ActivWing: An aerodynamic airfoil-shaped design engineered to stabilize the clubhead at the beginning of the downswing and keep the clubface stable through the impact zone.

SP-1200 shaft: High-performance carbon fiber with an advanced lightweight resin matrix in a .5-gram lighter shaft that is .25 inches shorter than the previous model.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
