Cobra launches new AeroJet irons

Published

on

Cobra Golf has today introduced the new AeroJet irons, which are designed to allow players to pursue levels of speed and distance in their iron game.

The new irons feature a sleek new design with a refined topline and several distance-enhancing technologies, including Cobra’s new PWR-Bridge weighting design that evolves upon the PWR-Cor in LTDx to optimize weight distribution and flexibility in design for maximum power and distance.

Per Cobra, engineers discovered that they could achieve the benefits of low CG and added face and body flexion by creating a separate weight that is untethered, which is called PWR-Bridge.

The PWR-Bridge design comprises a 70g steel weight that is completely separated from the face, body and sole of the iron. The design positions the CG low in a bid to optimize launch and creates room for the body structure to flex freely around the PWR-Bridge, resulting in excellent ball speed and distance.

To further increase face deflection for faster ball speeds, the AeroJet irons feature the brand’s largest PwrShell insert with a new H.O.T. Face variable thickness pattern, featuring a 22% larger thin area (1.9 mm at the thinnest point) than the previous LTDxTM irons.

H.O.T. FACE (which stands for Highly Optimized Topology) was designed using artificial intelligence and features multiple zones with optimized thicknesses and shaping in design to deliver a larger Sweet Zone for more efficient speed and spin across the entire clubface.

Per the brand, the PWR-Bridge and PwrShell, and H.O.T Face designs produce 10% more face deflection than LTDxTM, resulting in up to 1.8 mph faster speed and up to 3.5 more yards of total distance when tested on the robot. In addition, to improve overall feel, a Polymer Feel System is incorporated using an injected polymer filler that encases the hollow area around the PWR-Bridge weight to dampen vibration in a bid to provide a soft, forged-like feel and sound at impact.

Specs & Pricing

The AeroJet Variable Length irons are available in a 5-GW set comp (RH/LH; Steel Stiff and Reg – $999) or 4-PW (RH; Steel Stiff – $999), as well as a graphite combo set in 5H, 6-PW, GW (RH; Graphite Reg and Lite – $1099). An AeroJet Women’s offering comes in a silver and ice blue colorway and is also available in a graphite combo set (RH only; $1099), consisting of 5H, 6H, 7-PW, SW.

Cobra’s AeroJet One Length irons are available in 5-GW in graphite (RH – Stiff, Reg, Lite – $1099) and in steel (RH/LH – Stiff & Reg – $99) and a graphite combo set consisting of a 5H (One Length hybrid), and 6-PW, GW One Length irons (RH; Reg & Lite Flex – $1099).

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
