What OEM is ‘known’ for hybrids? – GolfWRXers discuss

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing the OEMs that they feel are known for producing the best hybrids. WRXer ‘Vater’ kicks off the thread saying:

“You know how Titleist, Mizuno, and Srixon are known for irons. And TaylorMade and Callaway are known for drivers/woods. Who do you think is known for hybrids?

Best technology/best design/popular/sells the most… however you take ‘known for’ to mean.”

And our members have been sharing their opinions in our forums.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • Sep1006: “I still have my 2, 3, and 4 Adams Pro A12 Hybrids and will never get rid of them. The PXG Gen 2 Hybrids are the only ones that knocked them out of the bag. And the only reason for that is feel; the PXGs just have a little softer feel at impact. Other than that, the Adams and PXG’s are identical in distance and dispersion.”
  • blackpdmillssap: “I would say Sonartec, at least for a time. When Todd Hamilton won the 2004 Open Championship at Troon, I distinctly remember he had a Sonartec utility that he had bent down to like 15*. This was back when utility/hybrid/rescues were not that prevalent. I am pretty sure Sonartec went under, but I don’t think I ever saw a Sonartec club that wasn’t a utility. Also, they are a JDM, so that probably has a bit to do with it.”
  • pak: “Tour Edge Exotics are worth a look. They have some of the best fairway woods and hybrids on the market.”
  • scooterhd2: “Tough decision between Adams and Adams. I’m gonna go with Adams.”
  • AC in TX: “Ping, Ping, Ping and more Ping … everything since the G25 hybrid has been money!”

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
